The Graphics Communications Conference (GCC), now known as the “Printing Packaging & Production Workers Union” (PPPWU) merged with the Teamsters Union in 2004. After being in the union for 19 years, its so-called leaders unilaterally disbanded the GCC and de-affiliated from the Teamsters without giving members the chance to vote on the decision. Since then, they have lost people, power, and membership at an astonishing rate.
The PPPWU’s membership is rapidly declining. Its leaders are too close with management, and they sign extremely weak deals that hurt the workers they represent. Members never see their leadership, receive no services or resources, and unlike members of real unions, are forced to fund their own retirement plans.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Every day, more members are ditching the sham PPPWU and joining the 1.3 million-member Teamsters Union. You should do the same by calling a Teamsters organizer at (202) 624-8718.
By leaving the PPPWU and joining the Teamsters, workers secure industry-leading contracts with strong health and retirement benefits, higher wages, and improved job protections. Here are some of the latest examples of that.
